In This Episode, Darlene and Nicole O’Brien, the founder of Ruth’s Way for Women, discuss:
Nicole’s founding of Ruth’s Way for Women which is a faith-based community focused on assisting women to transition to a healthy, joyful, productive lifestyle.
Ruth is a woman of the Bible who helped another woman out of love. She had no obligation to help, but they stood together through their own struggles to support and encourage one another.
Ruth’s Way for women is a resource for the women’s re-entry program at the Suffolk County Department of Corrections in Massachusetts.
Recovery starts with healing.
Alcohol is a dangerous drug because it is socially acceptable.
Over 88,000 people died last year because of complications with alcohol.
There have been challenges to operating this sober house but the rewards are powerful.
The importance of following the rules at Ruth’s Way is a reflection of abiding by the rules of society.
Women in recovery include homeless women and female Vets.
Knowing what to expect gives them security.
Ruth’s Way offers a multitude of services including those who have been victims of sex trafficking.
Addiction does not discriminate.
”Don’t give up. Be open-minded. Stop talking and start listening and do what is challenging. Taking short-cuts never works out well for us and doing the hard work today helps us have a successful life tomorrow.” - Nicole O'Brien
